It usually occurs due to tectonic plates movement, these tectonic plates moves when energy releases due to oceanic and continental plates edges. Earthquake is commonly measured in magnitudes. The earthquake of 2.5 or less is usually not felt, while earthquake of 2.5 to 5.2 magnitude are often felt and earthquake of 5.2 to 7.2 are cause big damage.
